This update is about the moments around the timer: what happens when you press Stop, what happens when you forget to, and what lands in your inbox afterward. Most of it came straight from your messages. Thank you for sending them.
Write the note while you still remember
A few of you told us the same thing about the Stop button: the time was saved, but there was no moment to say what the time was for. You had to go to Entries, find the row, and type the description there. That is fixed.
Now, when you stop a timer that has no description, the entry opens right away in a small review sheet. The cursor is already in the notes field, your past descriptions are suggested as you type, and you can adjust the duration or the billable switch while you are there. Save, and you are done. If the session was a false start, there is a Discard button too.
The entry is saved the instant you press Stop, before the sheet opens, so nothing depends on you finishing the form. Close the app, lose your connection, walk away: the time is in. The worst case is an entry without notes, which you can still edit later.
If you already write the description while the timer runs, you will never see the sheet. For everyone else there is a setting under Settings, Time Tracking, "Review entry on stop": only when notes are empty (the default), always, or never.
One smaller fix in the same area: on the desktop Timer page, notes typed into the running timer are now kept when you press Stop, even if you did not press Enter first.
Forgotten timers tidy themselves up
A timer left running overnight, or over a weekend, used to run until you noticed. Now a timer that is still going 24 hours after it started is stopped for you. Gigtime saves an entry on the day it started, using the elapsed time but capped at your daily goal (8 hours unless you changed it), rounded like any other timer stop. You get a notification with the saved duration so you can correct it if the real figure was different.
Paused timers count too. What matters is how long ago the timer was started, not whether it was ticking. The reminder that a timer has been running a long time still arrives first, so you have a chance to stop it yourself.
A quieter inbox
The Monday weekly summary now only goes out for weeks in which you logged something. If you took the week off, you will not get an email telling you that you logged zero hours. The log-hours reminder already covers the "you have not tracked anything lately" case, and one message for that is enough.
Timer reminders were already limited to once a day per running timer; with the 24-hour auto-stop above, the longest a forgotten timer can nag you is one reminder.
Picking a plan
On the web, the plan page now lists Annual before Monthly, which matches what most of you choose from the pricing page. If you picked a plan on gigtime.app before signing up, that card is marked "Selected for you" when you arrive, so the choice you made carries through account creation. And both paid plans are available to pick during your free trial, with the Founders annual price shown where it applies.
Also in this release
- Settings documentation now covers every option in Settings, General, including what each choice does. It is linked from the About section in the app.
- Timer reminder preferences now also cover the auto-stop notice, so one switch controls both.
The review sheet, the auto-stop, and the summary change are live on the web now and arrive with the next mobile and desktop builds. If you have been waiting for a reason to try the timer, start a free 30-day trial, press Stop, and tell us what you think of the new sheet.
